Can I Switch Orthodontists During Treatment?

Can I Switch Orthodontists During Treatment? David Ross Orthodontics Hanover, PA, and Lutherville-Timonium and Westminster, MD Thinking about changing providers while you have braces or clear aligners is common. Maybe you moved, your schedule changed, or you want a team closer to home. Good news. You can switch in the middle of care and still reach your goals with a smooth plan. Transferring care is possible for most patients in braces or clear aligners. At David Ross Orthodontics, we will review your records, check your appliances, and map the next steps so you can stay on track. We serve families in Hanover, PA, and Lutherville-Timonium and Westminster, MD, which makes ongoing visits convenient if you live or work near any of these locations.

How does a treatment transfer work?

Here is the simple flow most patients follow:

  • Share your orthodontic records. These may include photos, X-rays, and digital scans.

  • Come in for a transfer exam. We check your teeth, gums, and current appliances.

  • Get an updated plan. We outline remaining steps, expected time, and visit spacing.

  • Continue care. Braces patients are usually seen about every 6 to 8 weeks. Clear aligner patients are often seen about every 10 to 12 weeks. Exact timing depends on your case.

What is an Invisalign transfer and what should you bring?

Are you moving or switching orthodontists? No worries! We call that an Invisalign Transfer, it simply means we take over your clear aligner care right where you left off.

It’s easy to switch your treatment to David Ross Orthodontics.

What to Bring to Your Transfer Appointment:

When you come in for your visit, please bring these important things with you:

  1. Your Current Trays: The exact set of aligners you are wearing right now.
  2. Your Tray Number: Tell us the number of the aligner set you are currently on (like “Tray 12 of 24”).
  3. Any Leftover Aligners: If you have a box of new, unused trays, please bring those, too!

We will look at all the information from your previous office and decide the best next step. We might order new trays, or we might just continue with the series you already have.

Our team helps teens and adults restart their clear aligner care confidently and quickly, so you can keep moving toward your best smile!

Can you transfer braces too?

Yes. We treat patients in metal braces and tooth-colored ceramic braces. During your transfer visit we check bracket type, wire size, and any elastics, then place you on the right step in your plan. If you have a poking wire or a loose bracket when you transfer, we can guide you on quick fixes and schedule a visit to make you comfortable.

Will my timeline or cost change after I transfer?

Sometimes your plan or timing changes a little based on tooth movement and goals. We review everything with you at the exam and offer flexible payment options for braces and Invisalign patients. We also share typical visit spacing so you know what to expect.
