2. Dr. Ross evaluates your smile — He performs a thorough clinical examination, takes any necessary digital imaging or X-rays, and reviews your bite, alignment, and jaw development.
3. Review your treatment plan — Dr. Ross explains his findings, walks you through your options, and recommends the best treatment approach for your specific case. He and our team will also review payment plans and insurance benefits so you know exactly what to expect financially.
4. Decide to move forward — If you feel ready and Dr. Ross confirms you are a good candidate for same-day placement, we prepare for bonding.
5. Braces are placed — The brackets are bonded to your teeth and the archwire is threaded into place. The bonding process typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes.
6. Go home with your new smile started — You leave the office with your braces on, a care kit in hand, and the peace of mind that your treatment is officially underway.

Who Qualifies for Same-Day Braces?

Most patients are good candidates for same-day braces. Whether you are a teen getting braces for the first time or an adult ready to finally straighten your smile, same-day placement is typically available if:

• Your case does not require specialized planning or lab work before brackets are placed
• You are choosing a bracket-based treatment (metal braces or ceramic braces)

Some complex cases, such as those requiring surgical planning, early treatment with growth appliances, or additional dental work before orthodontics, may need an extra appointment before braces are placed. Dr. Ross will let you know during your evaluation.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces use tooth-colored brackets for a more discreet appearance. They work the same way as metal braces and are available for same-day bonding.

What About Invisalign?

Invisalign clear aligners require custom fabrication at an Invisalign lab based on a digital scan of your teeth. Because of this, Invisalign cannot be started the same day as your consultation. However, Dr. Ross can take your digital scan at your first visit so your aligners are ordered right away, getting you started as quickly as possible.

What to Expect After Getting Braces

The first few days after getting braces are an adjustment period. Here is what to keep in mind:

• Mild soreness — Your teeth and gums may feel tender for 3 to 5 days as they begin to adjust. Over-the-counter pain relief like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help.
• Soft foods first — Stick to soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, pasta, and smoothies for the first few days. As soreness fades, you can gradually return to your normal diet (avoiding hard, sticky, and crunchy items).
• Wax for comfort — If a bracket or wire feels rough against your cheek or lip, use the orthodontic wax provided in your care kit to smooth the area.
• Brushing and flossing — Continue brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily. Our team will show you the best techniques for cleaning around brackets and wires.
• Follow-up appointment — Your first adjustment visit will be scheduled approximately 6 to 8 weeks after placement.
